Critical commentary III
While our country is still facing identity crisis. There are numerous Filipinos out there trying to figure out how to solve such heartbreaking issue. In my opinion however, this problem is certainly far from solvable if there is still a hint of inferiority within us Filipinos. Sikolohiyang Pilipino is a way to deconstruct and disassemble the thinking of Filipinos. The mindset is centralised with each individuals hopes and dream with regards to the knowledge borrowed from colonisers. The issue I find with us Filipinos is the lack of understanding of our own-selves. Sikolohiyang Filipino isn’t intentionally against the knowledge taken away from those colonisers rather it just wants its own individuality. Norms and Values taken away from colonisers aren’t all that bad, though there are some I would consider negative. The idea of Bahala na, though it is a funny statement to scream whilst doing papers in class the last minute. Joke aside though, “Bahala na” is imagined as risk taking but in a more restricted manner. Restricted mainly because this “Bahala na” is often than not associated with giving up. There were values like “Utang na loob”, “pakikisama”, “hiya”, “mamaya na”, and many others. There are other pivotel interpersonal value like “pakikiramdam” (use of senses to feel others vibe), “Kagandahang-loob” (which is the ability of being kind and loving to others). The “holy trinity” of us Filipinos would be the terms “Karangalan”, “Dangal”, and “kalayaan”. Our (Filipinos) “karangalan” or dignity, while present, lacks in its use. Add the lack of “kalayaan” or freedom and “dangal” or the inner idea of dignity. We have already, the present day Philippines against bullies like China. In my opinion, the Philippines lack the ideology of “Pilipinolohiya”. the idea on what makes us Filipinos, become Filipinos. This includes Filipino pysche, culture, norms, society, values, and other components in which makes us, Filipinos, unique. The sad thing is, because of colonizers and now, the country trying to get colonized again, there is little to no nationality in this country. The country cannot defend itself alone especially if those in it is fighting against themselves. It’s sad to think that Filipinos are losing itself just because of how easy, some if not most, Filipino minds be manipulated.
