It has been discussed before and sadly it is taking its place in our lives once again. Colonisation is where an “other” occupies a space in an indigenous place/location or worst, country. The reason why i said “worst” is because of colonisation these indigenous people becomes the “other” and not the inhabitant. An “other” can be identified as a being that loses its identity and or soul. This being said, The Philippines can be concluded as a highly colonised country mainly because of recent situations. With the Spaniards and Americans highly immersed themselves in the Philippines. There is no thought of these Filipinos ultimately gaining their “soul” back. One good example of which is the fact that our constitution or government is based upon the Americans mixed with the Spanish ideologies on religion and economic advances. This is probably the reason why most if not all Filipinos become confused. Confused on their identity. Maybe, we aren’t all “others”, Maybe this country is just a hybrid from all the other countries that colonised it. Nonetheless its pretty ironic how Filipinos are trying to fight for something, in my opinion, that is lost. Our President Rodrigo Duterte, has managed to frighten and ironically, make Filipinos optimistic in his doing all throughout his career. China is now in our radar. The Philippines radar. We Filipinos shouldn’t just rely on the president considering the downslope decisions he makes. One very recent example is the fact that he is facing impeachment threats for his remark on the China and Filipino fishermen incident. Giving fishing rights to these Chinese men which is obviously and absolutely in violation of our constitution which states otherwise. In my opinion, may the country be a “hybrid” or an “other”, one thing will always remain with us Filipinos. We Filipinos never give up easily. Maybe we used to, but never again. As the youth awakens, in my opinion, The countries future is on good hands.
